FAQ and Relevant Info
How does healthcare in Italy work for tourists?
First of all, keep in mind that most of the doctors here don’t speak english. If you do not have a local doctor and you don’t have access to Italy’s SSN (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale), in order to get a prescription or a consultation your easiest choice would be to go to a hospital or emergency room. Queues for non-urgent issues are on average 2-7 hours. Such a long wait for a simple prescription that can be done remotely.
How do prescriptions work for tourists in Italy?
Since tourists don’t have access to SSN, they receive a “prescription on white paper”, which means that whichever medicines are prescribed need to be paid entirely by the patient and are not covered by SSN. This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to ask for a refund from your travel insurance.
Is travel insurance necessary for tourists in Italy?
While travel insurance is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended. Travel insurance can cover unexpected medical expenses, ensuring that you have financial protection during your trip. Our service can assist you in obtaining prescriptions for covered medical expenses, making travel insurance even more valuable.
